City of Manassas Receives Distinguished Budget Award

The City of Manassas has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012 by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

This award represents a significant achievement by the City of Manassas and reflects the commitment of the City and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

GFOA assesses each budget document to ensure that it fits within the following parameters:

• A policy document

• A financial plan

• An operations guide

• A communications device Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive this award.

Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.

“The City of Manassas is historically award winning for our financial management and performance,” said City Manager John A. Budesky.

“This demonstrates our commitment to transparency with tax payer funds and a commitment to demonstrate measurable return on investment for City projects.”
