The Osbourn High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Reflections program is an annual contest sponsored by the National PTA to encourage students to express themselves through creative venues.
The 2012 Theme is "The Magic of a Moment."
There are six categories in the competition: Literature, Visual Art, Music, Film/Video, Photography, and Dance Choreography.
The first place winners at Osbourn advance to District competition where they compete with high school students from around the region. First place winners at Districts advance to state competition to be judged with students from all around Virginia. Osbourn has had many district and state level winners in the last several years. The Patriot District Awards Ceremony will be held at Osbourn High School on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
The Visual Art winners are:
1st Place –Sylvia Clare, Grade 10, “Firefly Night”;
2nd Place – Gian Jalandoni, Grade 11, “Curiosity of One Creature”;
Honorable Mention – Alena Mejia, Grade 11, “The Power of a Promise.”
The Photography winners are:
1st Place – Stephen Meyer, Grade 12, “Light of the Town”;
2nd Place – Andrea Bailey, Grade 11, “Felicity”;
Honorable Mention – Stephen Meyer, Grade 12, “Unnatural.”
This year’s winners in Literature are:
1st Place – Porfirio Gutierrez, Grade 11, “The Magic World”;
Honorable Mention – Porfirio Gutierrez, Grade 11, “Momentos Especiales.”
Osbourn Reflections judges are experts in their fields who have volunteered their time and knowledge. Anna Mish from the Center of the Arts was the Visual Art Judge; Louise Noakes, also from the Center for the Arts, was the Photography Judge. Matilde Rosa Jimenez, an ESoL English teacher, was the Literature Judge and translator. All entrants received a certificate and gift card from Target.
