Candlelight Vigil in Manassas for Sandy Hook Shooting Victims

The vigil was a cooperative effort of Manassas city officials, Osbourn High School and Project Infusion, a Manassas nonprofit.

A candlelight vigil for the victims of Friday's school shooting in Newtown, Conn. took place Monday evening on the lawn of the Manassas Museum.

The vigil is a collaborative effort of the city of Manassas, Osbourn High School, the Manassas Museum, and Project Infusion, a Manassas-based nonprofit for children and young adults ages 12 to 21.

Project Infusion is all about the children, so when tragedy strikes involving young people there was a need to mobilize, Tina Murray, founder of Project Infusion and Osbourn High School instructional assistant, said.

"The idea (for the vigil) came to me Sunday morning, by the grace of God," Murray said.

It was made possible with the support of the Manassas city manager, the mayor and other city officials, she said.

The purpose of the vigil is to bring the community together to heal, she said.
