Is McDonnell Being Vetted by Romney Campaign?
Virginia governor tells WTOP's Mark Segraves "apparently there's some vetting going on."
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell may still be in the running for the VP slot with former Gov. Mitt Romney, the GOP presumptive nominee in the presidential race.
On Tuesday morning's "Ask the Governor" program on radio station WTOP, the governor told host Mark Segraves that "apparently there's some vetting going on," by the Romney campaign.
Instead of denying that he is being vetted, as he has done in the past, McDonnell said Tuesday it would be best to ask the Romney campaign. McDonnell attended a Park City, Utah retreat with Romney and other GOP leaders and donors over the weekend. Some pundits surmised Romney was sizing up potential VP choices.
McDonnell is set to attend a luncheon for Romney today in D.C. Romney is scheduled to make an appearance in Northern Virgina on Wednesday, at EIT, LLC in Sterling.
The most-often discussed potential VP choice is U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, 41. President Obama holds a slight lead over Romney in Florida, most recent polls show.
Five polls in Virginia taken within the past month show Obama leading in Virginia; one of the polls, by WeAskAmerica, shows Romney leading.

Speculation, speculation, speculation. Remember when the news just stated "Presidential hopeful X picks Y for VP slot"?

He ran for Governor as a moderate focused on jobs, but allowed the General Assembly to focus on transvaginal ultrasounds, gay judges and other social hot button issues. That will be a negative in a presidential campaign.

Never mind that he has helped make our state rated #1 for business-friendly environment and brought about robust fiscal health and employment, etc., right?

Fizban. First, that is the most ignorant statement to come down the pipe in awhile. Secondly, if you are going to bash learn how to write a proper English sentence. You also might want to consider taking Mark Twain;s advice.

Rubio is more likely. Florida voters, Hill experience, GOP admiration, nationwide hispanic appeal.

If I were McDonnell, Rubio...or any other Republican politician hoping for a future career as a Presidential candidate, I would not pick up the phone when Romney comes calling. I don't think there has been a successful candidate for President that was previously the VP candidate on a losing ticket since FDR...it is a career killer. And yes, I do believe Obama will win - with about the same margin as in 2008...

McDonnell allowed the Virginia legislature ensure he will not be a benefit to the ticket. He did not publicly decry the right-wing offal the legislature passed, and did not veto it, despite his claims to being a moderate.

McDonnell has done nothing that I consider helpful or important while he's been in office. He has signed off on all sorts of ridiculous, extremely conservative social bills, including that incredibly intrusive one requiring ultrasounds before abortions (so much for the Republican cry of "hands off" government). Transvaginal rape anyone? That's what I remember when I think of McDonnell. And now I hear he's even considering reappointing Helen Dragas. Meanwhile, Northern Virginia still has little to no transportation funding.

Never mind that he has helped make our state rated #1 for business-friendly environment and brought about robust fiscal health and employment, etc., right? Those of course aren't important areas of concern facing our country or anything, eh, so McDonnell shouldn't be on a national ticket...
