Update: Man Killed in Route 29 Head-on Collision ID'd

Prince William County Police say a South Riding man was killed Tuesday afternoon after the Honda CR-V he was driving was struck head-on by a dump truck.

Prince William County Police say a South Riding man was killed Tuesday afternoon after the Honda CR-V he was driving was struck head-on by a dump truck.

He has been identified as Daniel S. Tulk, 40, of South Riding near Chantilly.

The driver of a 2002 Ford F-350, also struck by the dump truck, sustained a minor injury, police say.

The driver of the 2006 Kenworth T800 dump truck has been identified as a 65-year-old Alexandria man. The driver of the F-350 has been identified as a 40-year-old woman of Aldie, Va.

Police say everyone was wearing seatbelts. Charges have not been placed as the investigation continues.

Prince William County Police are investigationg a fatal crash that happened along Rte. 29 (Lee Highway) near the intersection of Sudley Road.

Police responded to the crash site near the Manassas Battlefield around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a dump truck was traveling southbound on Rte. 29 when it crossed into the northbound lane, striking a Ford F-350.

The dump truck then overcorrected back into the southbound lanes then back into the northbound lanes striking a Honda CR-V head on, according to police. 

The driver, and only occupant, of the Honda CR-V was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released but police said the victim was an adult male.

No other injuries were reported. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or speed were factors in this collision.

Drivers in the area can expect delays as the investigation continues. Alternate routes of travel are encouraged.
