Old Town Manassas Coffee Shop Brews Up New Name

Simply Sweet on Main is now Grounds Central Station.

After almost three years of being the "sweetest" place on Main Street in Manassas, Simply Sweet coffee shop is now called Grounds Central Station.

Owners Matthew and Jennifer Brower wanted to change the name of their small, but popular cafe to one that better reflected what they serve as a full service coffee bar.

The name "Simply Sweet" led many to believe it was a solely a bakery, staff said.

Over several months, local patrons were encouraged to leave name suggestions at the restaurant as part of a naming contest, Matthew Brower said.

The suggestions was narrowed down and the finalist names were listed on Manassas Patch for an online vote.

The popular choice was Grounds Central Station, a name entered by Kathleen Mosimann. For her winning suggestion, Mosimann was awarded a $75 gift card.

Along with the new name, Grounds Central Station has added several new items including bubble tea, a sweet drink popular in Japan featuring tapioca pearls, and french press, the couple said.

The business opened on May 15, 2010 right beside Bull Run Unitarian Universalists Church, just a stone's throw from the corner of Center and Main Streets in Manassas.
