Old Town Post Office Building Sells for $385K

The Old Town Post Office building may have a new owner, but the post office will remain at the location for at least 92 more years.

The Old Town Post office building, located at 9108 Center Street, was sold Wednesday afternoon in a U.S. Marshals Service-ordered auction.

The historic, all brick 9976 sq. ft. building located in the heart of Old Town  sold for $385,000.

The post office entered a special 99-year, $725/month lease agreement in 2005 to occupy 20 percent of the building that will be honored by the new owner.

The remainder of the building consists of numerous separate offices, four bathrooms and beautiful marble and wood floors, on three separate levels.

According to a report by the News and Messenger, two Manassas residents who also own businesses in the area bought the building "because they wanted to keep ownership local." Although they cannot say for sure what their plans are for the building, they have thought about renting it out as office space.

The building was recently seized by Federal Marshals after the woman who bought it back in 2006, 52-year-old Linda Sadre, of Manassas,  was convicted and ordered to serve 12 months in prison for orchestrating a fraudulent mortgage elimination scheme that bilked homeowners out of millions of dollars.

Sadr was also ordered by a judge to pay more than $9 million in restitution to the victims and her time in jail will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Any changes made to the building by the new owners must comply with the historic Manassas city ordinance.

What would you like to see fill the space? I am not sure office space is the best option since there's plenty of vacant office space in the city just down the road.
