Police: Man Charged With Strangulation, Assault

A local man is accused of choking and assaulting an acquaintance during an argument, Prince William County Police said.
Matthew Walker Stevenson, 26, of Dumfries Road, is charged with strangulation, domestic assault and battery and destruction of property. He was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
A 21-year-old woman reported shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday that she and Stevenson had gotten into an argument that escalated. She told police that he broke her cell phone and assaulted her.
"During the encounter, the accused assaulted the victim multiple times and, at one point, began to choke her," Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the police department, said in a press release.
Perok said Stevenson fled before the police arrived, but turned himself in the next day.
