On Dec. 31, Officer Chris Yung became the third officer in the history of the Prince William County Police Department to die in the line of duty. 

Yung was passing through a green light on Nokesville Road in Bristow, with his sirens and lights on, when the driver of a Dodge Caravan made a left turn and hit his motorcycle, authorities said. He died later at a local hospital. 

Patch readers immediately posted words of condolences to Yung's family and members of the police department. 

M.L. Young: My heart goes out to Officer Yung's family. I had the chance to work with Officer Yung at a Prince William County school when we needed someone who could translate Korean into English. He was a pleasure to work with that day and was of great assistance. This county has lost a very valuable and professional man. God bless you, Officer Yung. You will be missed by those whose lives you touched.

Debbie Haight: I am a wife and mother of both police and fire and rescue personnel. I ask as you read the story you keep the Yung family in your prayers, but most importantly you keep this incident in you thoughts the next time you're behind the wheel of a car. Look and listen, and for heaven's sake, pull over when you see units responding. This tragedy could have been avoided.

Valerie Pugh Larson: My heart aches for the Yung family and the lifelong impact Chris Yung's tragic death will have on his family. Thank you to Chris and his wife for their dedication to our community. I hope family and friends will be able to give Chris's wife and their children the love and support they will need.

Mike Gillette: Officer Yung appeared in a Public Service Announcement that we filmed a couple of years ago called "Slow Down, Move Over." He was very motivated to help with this project because he said it was "an honor" to help promote the safety of first responders and other men and women who risked their lives on our roadways. Yung's funeral is scheduled for Friday. Viewing will be open for Prince William County government employees Thursday.
