Each of the firefighters participating will carry commemorative items such as badges and pictures of the firefighters killed during the attacks 11 years ago during their climb. Most of the firefighters will be climbing the 110 flights (the equivalent number of flights in each of the twin towers) in full gear, which weighs between 60 and 70 pounds.

The NFFF provides assistance to the surviving families of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
