Teenager Transported to Hospital After Being Struck by Truck
The boy was riding a bike when he was struck by a pick-up truck in Manassas City Thursday.
A teenage boy was transported to Prince William Hosptial Thursday with non-life threatening injuries after he was struck by a small pick-up truck while riding his bike, according to Manassas City Police Sergeant Eddie Rivera.
The incident happened just after 1 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Quarry Road and Prescott Avenue. Rivera said the driver remained at the scene to speak with officers. No charges are pending against the driver, he said.
Rivera said the driver was turning right onto Prescott Avenue from Quarry Road at the same time the 13 to 14-year-old boy was crossing Quarry Road. There's a stop sign and sidewalk at the intersection.

In addition to this incident a 13 to 14-year- old-boy was hit by a car along Prescott Avenue Thursday and a 16-year-old boy on a unicycle was also struck on Friday in Old Town Manassas, InsideNova reported. He had to be flown out to a hospital. A resident in Wellington told me yesterday a teenage boy on a bike was struck on Bens Way in that area of the city a few weeks ago.

Also, as drivers although it's not instinctual to look to the right when we are making a right hand turn, we should get into the habit of doing so. Oftentimes, runners run on the opposite side of the street and can be approaching. And as is the case of this young man, I assume he was crossing and the pick-up driver looked to the left, looked, straight ahead, but didn't see the boy already in the act of crossing.
