Three Children Taken To Hospital After Dog Attacks

Manassas City Police Sgt. Eddie Rivera confirms three children were attacked by a loose dog Wednesday in the Wellington area after they reached for its collar.

Manassas City Police Sgt. Eddie Rivera confirms three children were attacked by a loose dog Wednesday after they reached for its collar.

The three young victims range in ages from 9 to 12 years old. Two of the victims remain in the hospital. 

Rivera said a 10-year-old victim was taken to the hospital after they were bit in the face, receiving lacerations to their nose.

The second victim, identified as a 9-year-old, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in D.C. after being bit in the eye.  Rivera said the young victim was to undergo surgery and remains in the hospital.

The third victim is identified as a 12-year-old, who received injuries to their chest.

Police say the dog is from the Georgetown South neighborhood, but the attack occurred near condominiums in the Wellington area.

The dog is a 50-pound black Labrador police identified as a "repeated loose" that they've been unable to locate after recent reportings.

Rivera confirms the dog is in custody and no longer a threat to the community. Police have placed charges against the owner of the dog.
