'Manassas Got Talent' by Project Infusion

The talent show, in its second year, will take place on Mother's Day weekend.

Project Infusion is proud to present the second annual "Manassas Got Talent," a youth and young adult showcase of singing, dancing, positive rap (no profanity), poetry and more being held on Saturday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Metz Middle School. Celebrity judges include Osbourn High School principal John Werner, who during his 19 years in public education, has led and supervised five different fine and performing arts programs throughout Northern Virginia; Mally Dryden-Mason,  with Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR); Performer and singer Urian Murray; and Kelly Cooper, a U.S. Air Force veteran. The artwork will be on display to the public through May 21.

Osbourn High School (OHS) student artwork will be on display at City Hall in Old Town Manassas now through May 21.  "Every year in April we hold a special showing of our top student art on the first floor of the City Hall building," said Sarah Weaver, who is the Fine Arts Department supervisor at the local high school.  A special opening reception and light refreshments were held on April 23 at City Hall, where Manassas Mayor Harry J. (Hal) Parrish ll provided remarks to the students and their parents in attendance. Arts Alive Planned For Sunday at Hylton Center

This free, family event starts at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Hylton performing Arts Center in Manassas.

From the Prince William County Arts Council: The Prince William County Arts Council and Hylton Performing Arts Center will present Arts Alive 2012 from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at the Hylton Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas.  Arts Alive will include performances, exhibits, hands-on activities and demonstrations by local artists and arts organizations. Inside and outside the Hylton Center, Arts Alive will feature 18 performances on three stages; visual art on display and for sale; local authors reading their work and telling stories; and food for purchase from local vendors. Last Chance: Be a Local Country Music Star

Radio station WMZQ, 98.7 FM, is hosting a battle of the bands. To be a contestant submit your band's video by noon on Friday.

The country music station WMZQ, 98.7 FM, is hosting a Battle of the Bands contest that ends at noon on Friday. Northern Virginia area bands can submit a YouTube link to a video of the band to the contest site that is no longer than four minutes. Be sure to read the rules. "Six bands will be chosen to perform on May 3rd or May 17th at Growler's in Gaithersburg and compete for the chance to open the day at WMZQ Fest on June 3rd!" according to the contest's website.  Read more, including the contest rules at the WMZQ contest page.  From the looks of the Facebook comments, a Maryland band called The Sam Grow Band, which frequents such establishments as The Whiskey in Annapolis, seems to be a popular contestant so far. Underwater Robotics Challenge Comes to Manassas-area

More than 500 students and adults will be at the Manassas Park Community Center for the SeaPerch Challenge this week.

Hundreds of the nation's brightest students are set to converge on the Manassas Park Community Center this week for the National SeaPerch Challenge. The three-day event begins Wednesday, and students will convene in the community center’s aquatics area on Thursday for the actual underwater robotics competition. The community center will also host an awards dinner where former White House chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra will speak. Prince William County Public Schools and the visitors bureau, Discover Prince William and Manassas, are coordinating the students' visits to Manassas museums and other local attractions such as the Manassas Battlefield.
