A New Home For Taco -- The Chill Chihuahua

A few weeks ago, we featured Taco, The Chill Chihuahua, a 7-year-old pup in search of a new family. I’m happy to share that Taco has found a great home! His new family saw his story featured on the Potomac Patch and were immediately drawn to him.

Taco’s new family has rescued older pups in the past, and has a 15-year-old Chihuahua named Chester who they nursed back to health after finding him by the side of the road. They wanted to find a companion for Chester, and when they saw Taco’s sweet face, they knew he was the right fit.

Now, every day when they come home from work, they have two Chill Chihuahuas greeting them at the door to welcome them home. Taco (now known as Ollie) has fit in seamlessly with his new family, and loves his brother Chester. They share space on their parents’ bed, swap sweaters from time to time, and love going on walks together. Taco’s presence has had a positive impact on Chester’s health. He now has more pep in his step, his appetite has increased, he’s more active, and he is acting like a younger dog.

I spoke with Taco’s new mom, Gina, about her decision to adopt an older dog. “We prefer older dogs. They have a lot of wisdom; they are loving, grateful, and story-tellers who speak with their eyes.” Gina is a strong supporter of rescue. She grew up in a family that always had purebred labs, but she has now converted her family to rescuing pups in need. Her parents just adopted their first rescue lab, and her sister is now the proud owner of a rescued pit bull pup.

We thank Taco’s new family for opening up their hearts and home to an older dog. We’re also excited to have them as part of our rescue community, as Gina has begun volunteering with Mutts Matter to help other dogs in need. Also, a big Thank You goes out to the Patch for sharing their platform with us to help these deserving pups find great homes.

If you would like to consider adopting an adult dog, check out the short bio and attached pictures of Blue and Mo Mo, two of our adult pups still waiting for their forever homes. To learn more about them and all of our wonderful dogs, go to http://www.muttsmatterrescue.com/available_dogs.html

Blue is a sweet, mellow 6 to 7-year-old pit bull terrier. He weighs 55 pounds, is short and stout, and has a beautiful gray coat. Blue is potty-trained, loves car rides, walks great on a leash, and will make a wonderful companion to hang out with. He’s great with kids and fine with other mellow dogs too. Blue would do well in most homes, and deserves a loving family to share his life with.

Mo Mo is a laid-back Pekingese who is about seven years old and weighs 15 pound. He is potty-trained, loves to go on car rides, and walks great on a leash.  He’s great with other dogs and quite social, but he’s best at being your personal companion. MoMo would be a great fit for an individual who is looking for a buddy, or a family with another dog. A fenced yard is always a nice option, but he would do great in a condo or townhouse too.

Thank you for sharing the joys of adopting older dogs! My family has brought several "used" adult dogs into our home, and been richly rewarded each time. They train quickly, are past the sometimes frustrating exuberance and misbehavior of puppyhood, and they are the most grateful and loving beings on the planet. There is no adoration like that of a rescued adult dog. I heartily recommend it!
