The Virginia Railway Express recently debuted changes to the mapping feature in its Rail Time system, a program used by riders to track the whereabouts of trains on the Manassas and Fredericksburg Lines. VRE officials were prompted to make the change to Rail Time after Microsoft canceled MapPoint—the mapping feature Rail Time used—in December, VRE spokesman Mark Roeber said this week. Microsoft customers like VRE were then required to migrate to Bing in order to continue providing maps for services like Rail Time, he said. VRE made the changes available to the public this week after converting its account to Bing and making some changes to its scripts and code so the Bing maps can work well with the system. Cedars Mediterranean Grille in Manassas is marking its one-year anniversary with a ribbon cutting ceremony this week. Owner of Cedars, Fouad Abiaad, may not be new to the restaurant business, but he is new to the Manassas area and said his main goal is to educate people on home-style Mediterranean fare. "It's hard for people to justify spending $10 on a meal they don't know if they are going to like or not in the current economic times," Fouad said. But Fouad knows people will enjoy his food. He's so sure, he's willing to absorb the cost if someone doesn't like their meal. "I want people to be able to try something different," Fouad said. I walked into my neighborhood Bloom grocery store this morning and it was a Food Lion!
Apparently, Delhaize American announced in January it was converting some of its Bloom stores to Food Lion as the company embarks on a new strategy for future growth. According to Food Lion Spokeswoman Tenisha Waldo, the company converted four Bloom stores in Manassas to Food Lion locations. The stores at 6306 Hoadly Road and 13490 Dumfries Road converted on April 22; and the stores at 9121 Centerville Road and 10159 Hastings Drive converted Sunday, April 29. The Bottom Dollar Food store at 8313 Sudley Road in Manassas will also convert to a Food Lion later this year, Waldo said. Thrilling new acts added for second annual Wings, Wheels & Warriors Airshow.
Attention all thrill-seekers, the second annual Wings, Wheels & Warriors Airshow is just weeks away, and with exciting new acts added to this year's show it is revving up to be one of the biggest events along the East Coast. This year's lineup includes the U.S. Golden Knights Parachute Team leaping out of airplanes performing stunts and world famous National Aerobatic Champion, Sean D. Tucker and his Oracle Challenger III high performance bi-plane.
