Astar’s Chinese-American Friendship Camp

In July 2012, Astar will be welcoming 30 Chinese students to our Manassas location for summer camp. Our students will participate in English classes in the morning and cultural activities in the afternoon.

During this time we are hoping to have Chinese classes open to the community.

We are also looking for host families to take in our CHinese students and give them the experience of living as an American in an American home.

Host families will be given a stipend of $300 for every student they host for 2 weeks.

Who can host?

As long as you have some extra love to go around, that’s all you need! We accept families with or without children, married or single father and/or mother figures.

What we require/prefer from our host families:

*2 meals and a snack lunch per day on weekdays. 3 meals per day on weekends.

*A bed for the student. Shared rooms are okay. We only require that each student has his or her own bed.

*Transportation to and from school.

*We ask that the family provides opportunities for the student to interact with family members, and to participate in cultural events such as parades, fairs,  festivals, museums, etc.

Please contact us today to receive an application!

Astar Education Institute is a Chinese and English language school. It is located just behind Sudley Manor on Donegan Drive. Astar prides itself on having a highly trained staff, where all the teachers have at least a bachelor's degree and most hold a master's degree.

When learning a language, the mechanics and basics are important, of course. However, you really can't be a successful communicator if you do not know the culture which is why Astar offers a variety of electives and culture classes. Students can learn about American art history, encountering the Chinese, regional American cooking and doing business with the Chinese.
