DESCRIPTION:This fascinating concert takes audiences of all ages on a jou
rney through time to the origins of the world&rsquo\;s violins and fiddl
es and forward to the electric violins of tomorrow. Appearing at the Hyl
ton Center for the first time\, National Symphony Orchestra violinist Gl
enn Donnellan enthralls audiences with American fiddling\, European fidd
ling (including the visually stunning Norwegian Hardanger fiddle) and th
 e Chinese two-stringed fiddle (Erhu)\, exploring the globe-spanning hist
ory of fiddling and the violin. The performance culminates with Donnella
 n's one-of-a-kind fiddle\, the Electric Slugger&reg\;\, which he created
from a regulation Louisville Slugger&trade\; baseball bat to perform at
MLB games. This engaging performance captivates&nbsp\;students&nbsp\;as
they learn about how a violin and fiddle make sounds\, watch a bow and
arrow become an instrument\, and how with a little electric energy\, a v
iolin can ROCK the house! Before or after each performance\, children wi
ll have an opportunity to play the various violins featured during the p
 erformance in a hands-on demonstration.
