Get Out: Remember 9/11

A few things to do and ways to commemorate the tragic events that occurred 10 years ago.

This weekend Manassas has planned a few special events to commemorate the tragic occurrence of the 9/11 terrorists attacks that took us all by surprise 10 years ago. Come together with the community and participate in an event to remember.

3:16 Freedom 5k/1 Mile Fun Walk!

Where/When: Manassas St. Thomas UMC; Saturday, September 10; 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Why Go: Help raise funds for the youth summer mission trip at Manassas St. Thomas UMC. The course will run through the neighborhoods of Manassas. T-shirts for everyone who participates.

Pricing: 5k is $18 in advance and $25 on race day. One-mile walk is $12 in advance and $15 on race day. Find more race information here or register directly at Manassas St. Thomas UMC.

14th Annual “Evening Under the Stars”

Where/When
: Harris Pavilion; Saturday, September 10; 7:00 p.m.

Why Go: Funds go to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a non-profit organization, which helps children who are abused, neglected, and abandon find protection in court rooms. There will be music from the 20s, 30s and 40s, cuisines from 30 restaurants, a cash bar, auctions, free wine tastings, and even a red carpet.

September 11—A Time of Remembrance and Hope

Where/When: Harris Pavilion; Sunday, September 11; 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: "It is important to remember those who were lost to us in 2001 and it is important for us to dedicate our lives to a community and national fabric of hope," according to Pastor Rudy Tucker of Grace United Methodist Church, who will be one of the pastors leading the service.

Pricing: Free

 


9-11 Memorial Stair Climb

Where/When: Sudley Tower; Sunday, September 11; 8:45 a.m.

Why Go: Help pay tribute to the fallen firefighters from the attacks of 9/11 on this 10th anniversary of the tragic events. Each of the 114 firefighters participating will carry three of the fallen with them during their climb, and will climb 12 times. The remaining two stories will be walked. This is hosted by the Stonewall Jackson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

Pricing: $25 fee per climber. Register online here.

 


City Wide Worship Night and September 11 Commemoration

Where/When: Hylton Performing Arts Center; Sunday, September 11; 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: Remember 9-11 by joining the community in a night of contemporary Christian worship accompanied by music and ballet performances by the Asaph Dance Ensemble of Manassas.

Pricing: Tickets are sold out but seats are expected to come open for those who do not show by 5:45 p.m.

 “We Remember – September 11th”

Where/When: Chick-fil-A at Signal Hill; Saturday, September 10; 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: Join the community for a day of patriotism. The Bull Run Troubadours will bring patriotic songs and a fire engine and rescue truck from the City of Manassas Park Fire Department will be
present.
