Kroger Buys Harris Teeter Grocery Stores

Harris Teeter grocery stores in Manassas, Bristow and in other areas of Northern Virginia are now under the ownership of Kroger, but don't look for a name change or the closing of any of your local stores.

Kroger purchased Harris Teeter in a $2.5 billion deal announced Tuesday but Harris Teeter’s 29 stores in Virginia will continue to operate under the same brand name but as a subsidiary of Kroger Co., according to a statement released by the company.

Together, the company will operate 2,631 supermarkets and employ over 368,300 employees across 34 states and D.C. There are no plans to close stores, according to the statement.

There are Harris Teeter stores at: 10060 Market Circle in Hastings Market Place in Manassas and in Bristow at 10438 Bristow Center Drive.

Another grocery giant, Delhaize America retired its Bloom brand of grocery stores, and shuttered some of its Food Lion and Bottom Dollar locations as part of a restructuring.
