New DMV Full-service Mobile Center Coming to Manassas

A new mobile Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles customer service center, called DMV 2 Go Richmond, will be parked outside of City Hall in Old Town Manassas Thursday, offering residents a convenient way to conduct their DMV business.

Manassas City Manager Larry Hughes said the mobile unit will be in the parking lot adjacent from City Hall from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, September 15.

"We're excited to launch this convenient service for communities in western Virginia," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "If you can't get to DMV, we'll bring DMV to you!"

The 32-foot full-service DMV center on wheels is handicapped-accessible and can provide all DMV transactions to include:

Applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards
Road and knowledge tests and photographing
Ordering disabled parking placards or plates
Getting vehicle titles, license plates and decals
Updating home address, voter registration and organ donor status

Customers will also have access to a wireless Virginia Internet portal where they can search for other state services.

 DMV 2 Go Richmond is the first DMV "office on wheels" and  launched just this year. Both DMV 2 Go Roanoke and DMV 2 Go Richmond are equipped with the latest wireless technology to accomplish the needed connection to DMV's computer systems, according to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.  The wireless capability allows the units to provide secure service at virtually any location.

In the past, DMV had five mobile offices that traveled to provide services throughout Virginia. The units were sold after state budget reductions in 2002.

"It's significant to be able to bring this needed service back to Virginians who may not have immediate access to a DMV branch office," Holcomb said.

 DMV 2 Go Richmond will also be visiting assisted living facilities and retirement communities, businesses, university and college campuses, and military bases this fall.
