Parking Restrictions, Road Closures in Place for Sesquicentennial Events

Events being held this week in Prince William County and the City of Manassas will lead to area road closures and parking restrictions.

Events being held this week in Prince William County and the City of Manassas will lead to area road closures and parking restrictions. 

Sesquicentennial activities will occur in the City of Manassas July 19 – 24. Heavy traffic should be expected on these dates in the City. Traffic advisories and road closures will also take place on  routes 29 and 234 in the area of the Manassas National Battlefield Park as it hosts the Battle of First Manassas/Bull Run commemorative events July 21-24, 2011.

  • Prince William Street from Grant Avenue to the Parking Garage Entrance July 20, 2011 through July 24, 2011 from 8:00AM to 10:00PM
  • West Street from Center Street to Prince William Street
    July 20, 2011 through July 24, 2011 8:00AM to 10:00PM
  • Battle Street from Center Street to Prince William Street
    July 20, 2011 through July 24, 2011 8:00AM to 10:00PM

Restricted Parking Areas for Long-term closure include:

  • Manassas Museum handicap lot diagonal spaces in front of the  museum on Prince William Street during road closure.

***Pease not those in need of handicap parking spaces will be able to park in designated spaces in the museum's side parking lot or in the parking garage directly across the street from the museum***

  • Water Tower Lot Visitor Center Parking Lot July 20, 2011 through July 24, 2011 8:00AM to 10:00PM

***Please note the VRE Old Town station Kiss and Ride area will be moved to the intersection of Prince William and Main Streets for Thursday, July 21, and Friday, July 22.***


Event rolling road closures include:
 

  1. National Jubilee of Peace, July 21, from approximately 1:00PM to 6:00PM
  • Grant Avenue between Church Street and Sudley Road
  • Lee Avenue from Peabody Street to West Street
  • West Street from Lee Avenue to Church Street

National Jubilee of Peace Restricted Parking:

  • Grant Avenue from Portner Avenue to Church Street (both sides)
  • Lee Avenue from Peabody Street to West Street
  •  West Street between Lee and Church
  1. Sesquicentennial Parade, July 22,  from approximately 9:00AM to 1:00PM

*All temporary road closures for the parade will be reopened once the parade passes*

 

  • Main Street at OHS Tudor Lane at Fairview Ave.
  • Prince William St. at Grant Avenue

Sesquicentennial Parade Parking Restrictions, July 22, 2011 from 12:00AM through 1:00PM;

 

  • West Street between Prince William and Center Street
  • Center Street between West St. and Main St.
  • Main Street between Center St. and Portner Ave.
  • Portner Avenue between Main Street and Breeden Avenue
  • Breeden Avenue between Portner and Mathis Avenues

Shuttle bus Ticket Information:

The City could see up to 30,000 visitors a day from July 21-24. There will be no parking at the historic sites, including  the Manassas Museum, Liberia, Cannon Branch or Mayfield Forts, the cemetery or Jennie Dean site.

Drivers will not be allowd  through the historical event sites. The Old Town parking garage will be open to the public for those who want to shop and dine.

Handicap parking is available at the museum and in the Old Town parking garage, but  Sesquicentennial historic site visitors are encouraged to park at the the Prince William County Fairgrouns (10624 Dumfries Rd.) where there is handicap parking and board an air conditioned shuttle bus that will drive them comfortably to all the sites. The buses/shuttles are handicap-accessible.

The shuttle/bus packaged ticket cost $20 per person/per day (children up to 4 years old are free). This gets you access to all City sites (except Blue and Gray Ball),  bus transfer and a $5 gift card to use in Manassas at restaurants and shops, including the Manassas Museum store, Echoes.

Tickets for Blue and Gray Ball, which takes place Satuday, July 23, are $75 a piece.
