The Manassas Art Guild's "Artist of the Month" series continues in June with a selection of works from Laura Lavarnway. Lavarnway, who in her other life is a database administrator, has been painting since first grade. She works mostly in watercolor and acrylics, and enjoys working en plein air (outdoors). One of her favorite creations is a watercolor of Carmello's restaurant, completed last year during the Paint! Manassas en plein air competition. This painting went on to win second place in that event. Other favorites include a series of paintings of the bluebells at Merrimac Farm. Lavarnway is the vice-president of the Guild and coordinates many of its activities. Each month, artwork by a different local artist is featured in from six to ten Old Town businesses. This month's participating merchants are: Ashby Jewelers, City Square Cafe, Creative Crush Studio, Echoes at Manassas Museum, Opera House Gourmet, Simply Sweet on Main, Whimsical Galerie, and when it reopens, The Things I Love. Visitors to the shops will find Ms. Lavarnway's paintings displayed in easily spotted locations, accompanied by a list of other shops to visit if they want to see more of her work. All of the shops are located within an easy walk of each other.
