Summer Theatre Program Presents Annie

Leapin’ Lizards! The Saint Bernadette Summer Theatre Program presents  Annie, the award-winning Broadway musical that tells the heartwarming tale of little orphan Annie and her new life with Daddy Warbucks. Performances are August 2nd, 3rd, 4th at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday, August 4th at 2 p.m. All performances will be at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on George Mason University’s Prince William Campus, 10960 George Mason Cir, Manassas, VA 20110: Gregory Family Theatre. TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT WWW.SUMMERTHEATREPROGRAM.ORG or at the DOOR, $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors.

Librettist Thomas Meehan describe Annie as “a metaphorical figure standing for innate decency, courage and optimism in the face of hard times, pessimism and despair.” Set in December of 1933, the height of the Great Depression, Annie follows the new adventure of Little Orphan Annie, an 11 year old, whose “hard-knock life” turns into a dream come true when Oliver Warbucks, the billionaire, invites her to live with him for Christmas. This family show is full of catchy music and dance, new- found friendships, a friendly puppy, and the lesson that life is never truly complete without family.

Now in its sixteenth season, the Saint Bernadette Summer Theatre Program draws talented high school students from the DC metropolitan area every summer.  The program seeks to provide a safe, supporting environment for young people to showcase their talent and grow in fellowship and community.  It is run by a full volunteer staff, many of whom were once themselves involved with the program as students.  Summers with STP, as it is familiarly known, is about community first and show second. A love of performance is just one uniting characteristic that bonds new friends together.
