"Printerest" Exhibit Visits Center for the Arts

The George Mason University Printmakers Guild is an organization made up of students, faculty and artists based out of the Washington D.C. area. Their display named "Printerest" can be seen at the Merchant Family Gallery in the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory until June 14.

"We're thrilled they're here," said gallery director Anna Mish. "More and more it gives us the opportunity to teach people about printmaking. It's not a very well-known medium."

The goal of the GMU Printmakers Guild is to share their knowledge about printmaking, and educate the public. The guild did a free demonstration and talk in May when their exhibit first came to the gallery.

While most of the prints in the gallery are for sale, one that is not comes from artist Wendy M. Ross, the sculptor responsible for the George Mason National Memorial.

In Ross's piece "Dog Days in the High Plains," Mish said a small picture of the sculpture of George Mason can be seen on the barn door.

Another artist whose work is among the prints is Norma Pfaff, whose work can also be seen at her studio in the Alexandria Torpedo Factory.

Mish also said that two artists, Catherine Cole and Josh McGuin, that have been featured in the "Off the Wall" exhibit for high school students in the past are a part of the current "Printerest" exhibit.

The exhibit is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays through June 14 at the , and is free to attend.
