Committee of 100

Prince William County Virginia... The Prince William Committee of 100 will host a program on County Supervisors' Discretionary Funds on February 16 at the Four Points by Sheraton, 10800 Vandor Lane in Manassas. The program is open to the public and will begin at 7:45 p.m. A meet and greet begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. Reservations and payment are required for dinner. For additional information, go to www.pwc100.org.

Supervisors are allowed to accumulate surpluses from their office budgets over a number of years and spend them after notice to their colleagues of a planned expenditure. Should some county tax revenues be spent at the direction of a single elected official, rather than through the budget processes (including public hearings) and the decisions of the Board of Supervisors as a whole? In the past some discretionary funds have been used to address urgent needs of governmental services in a district and have often been donated to non-profit organizations. However, the February program will focus on the off-budget aspect of the Supervisors’ discretionary funds and not on whether government funds should be provided for the work of non-profit groups.

The Prince William County Committee of 100 provides a non-partisan, educational forum to study essential interests, problems and goals of the people of Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park.
