Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs Dies at 56

Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. Many couldn't do their jobs as easily without your reliable products. Your innovative spirit will be greatly missed.

Steve Jobs, former chief executive officer and co-founder of Apple, died Oct. 5. He was 56.

This news follows close upon the heels of on Aug. 24 of this year. Jobs was ill for much of the past decade: he suffered from pancreatic cancer, and, in 2009, he had a liver transplant.

Hailed as a visionary, Jobs is often credited with many of Apple's iconic products, such as the MacBook, the iPhone, and the iPad. The Los Angeles Times tracks Jobs' career from college dropout to Apple CEO and his purchase of the "small computer graphics division" that he renamed Pixar.

In 2005, Jobs gave a commencement speech at Stanford University on "How to live before you die."
