Magnificent Belly Dance Moving to Old Town

Suburban Gypsies Bring Belly Dancing to Center Street.

Magnificent Belly Dance, currently located on Stonebrook Drive in Manassas, is moving to a new location on June 1st.

A woman-owned business, the new studio will sit right in the heart of town on the corner of Center and Zebedee streets in what is called “the white building.” This building, resembling a church, is located where Center Street veers off to the left and Rte. 28 begins.

The company is a unique one featuring various classes based on Egyptian cabaret and Oriental dance styles.  They range from Beginner Belly Dance, Routines 1, and Routines 2, based on skill level respectively. Classes at the new location will remain the same and include their Dance Troupe classes, private group lessons and an extra help class.

Magnificent Belly Dance is also known for its parties. They host dance, dress up, photo shoot and combination parties, which use hip scarves, veils, costumes and jewelry, depending on the party choice. They also offer a wide array of options for birthday, baby or bridal showers, retirement, wedding parties and more.

The idea behind the belly dance trend is to promote fun workout techniques, “alluring entertainment,” and “unearthing feminine energy through movement.” And one of their mottos is to encourage women to rejoice in life’s milestones with positive energy.

The Suburban Gypsies, the studio’s leaders, make up a team of eleven ladies ranging in age from 20’s to 50’s. Many of the women have children and some even grandchildren.

One gypsy, Rebecca, commented Shakespeare on the website: “A star danced, and under that was I born.”

“What a beautiful way to celebrate femininity!” she said.

Truly an art, it is evident these ladies have a passion for what they do and envision instilling that passion among the community.

They have a few events left scheduled for May before they move:
