New Fiat Car Commercial Features Manassas Posing as a European City

Robert Barolin, whose family happens to be Italian, was handpicked to be in the Italian car commercial.

A new commercial for one of the hottest new European cars in America features Old Town Manassas posing as a charming, Italian city.

The company,The Skyhaq Agency in Reston, chose Manassas to appear in a commercial for the 2014 Fiat 500L because of the city's historic appeal—someone within the company was familiar with Old Town Manassas and thought it would be a good stand-in for an old world European city.
They weren't looking for something that looked too modern, said Robert Barolin, who is also featured in the commercial along with his restaurant City Square Cafe  located in the heart of Old Town.

The commercial is embedded in this article and can be viewed here.

The producers asked if they could use the City Square Cafe patio for part of the commercial, because its decor looked especially European, he added.

They then asked Barolin to appear in the commercial for the compact Italian ride—without even knowing that Barolin is of Italian decent.

"Just by pure coincidence," said Barolin, who was born in Uruguay, a country settled by Italians and other European groups early in its history.

Barolin said he is at the very beginning of the commercial; he's the older gentleman sitting at the table with a cup of coffee, supposedly gawking at the hot Italian woman in red—or—the hot Italian Fiat, also in red.

The commercial is for the car dealership, Safford Fiat of Tysons Corner and was filmed earlier this summer.  It can be seen on Comcast channels in Virginia.
