This is Nando's Peri-Peri second location in Prince William County. The Afro-Portuguese restaurant also has a location in Woodbridge.

If you like your poultry with an Afro-Portuguese twist, then you'll want to fly down to the newest location of Nando's Peri-Peri opening today, Dec. 4 in Gainesville's Virginia Gateway Shopping Center.

Nando's is known for its Peri-Peri chicken which is marinated for 24 hours before being flamed roasted, then basted to customers' specifications of spice and flavor.

The restaurant began in South Africa more than 20 years ago and the Gainesville location pays homage to those African roots through is decor, which features works by noted-African artist Lerato Motau, who learned his skills as a child painting in the streets of South Africa.

Nando's signature dish is named for the Peri-Peri, the Bird's Eye chili pepper, introduced to the Portuguese by Africans centuries ago.

Nando's, a global chain, first landed in the U.S. in 2008 when it opened a location in Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown neighborhood. That location was later joined by 14 more  in the D.C. metro including one in Woodbridge which opened in June.

Nando's is located just off Interstate 66 is one of many new shops opening in Gainesville.
