Persnickety Cakes Open for Business

Newly-opened Old Town bakery offers 30 different kinds of cupcakes

Persnickety - Requiring a particularly precise or careful approach.

Owners of in Old Town, Andy and Tanya Goon wanted to make sure that this definition was applied to opening up their new bakery on Center Street.

Manassas residents for over two decades, the couple has been walking the streets of Old Town for that same amount of time and felt it needed a bakery.

"We have been Manassas residents for 22 years, walked through Old Town and said the same thing everyone else has been saying, 'You know, Old Town needs a nice bakery where you can sit down, have a cup of coffee and a pastry,'" Andy said.

The pastry shop, which opened in early August,  serves more than just coffee and pastries.

They offer 30 different styles of cupcakes on a rotating basis, which have been flying off the shelves into the mouths of the community.

Some of their scrumptious mini cakes include, Red Velvet, Pina Colada, Triple Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Coffee and Black Forest.

The coffee cake is topped with a coffee-flavored buttercream and  chocolate-covered espresso bean. The top seller by far is the Red Velvet, so be sure and get there early because no matter how any extra they bake, they always sell out.

If you are not in the mood for something so sweet, try one of their Pumpkin Swirl Bars, which pairs great with coffee.

Persnickety Cakes also offers great deals on their cupcakes; each one is under $2. Buy 6, get 5% off; Buy 12, get 10% off; purchase 24 and receive 15% off.

They bake cakes for special occasions as well, including birthdays ad weddings. Check out their website for coupons and more information, or stop by the store, location on 9105 Center Street in Old Town.

Best cupcakes I've ever had. I have a few favorites, to include, coconut and rasberry. They are always fresh. It's hard to have just one. I'm glad they opened in Manassas. Come and visit them, you won't regret it. Janet

I've been to Persnickety Cakes an average of twice a week since it opened and I've ordered two special occasion cakes from them. This bakery has definitely become my favorite in the area. The cupcakes are moist, always fresh, and delicious. They aren't overpowered with too much frosting and the frosting isn't overly sweet. I really hope this bakery succeeds - it's a welcome addition to Old Town and I wish them much success!
