Gold's Gym is trying to get away from its traditional view as a 'muscle head gym,' and owner of the new Manassas location, Bob Rawlins has done just that.
"We are anything but that," said owner Rawlins said.
The new gym is two levels and is over 30,000 sq. ft., and offers conventional and unconventional training options.
There's a traditional cardio area with treadmills, stationary bikes, stair climbers, elliptical machines and more. Or you can head into the Cardio Cinema and jump on your favorite machine while watching a movie on the big screen.
The room is dark and quiet as people peddle, walk or job along; all the while watching the newest releases out on NetFlix, forgetting about time and mileage. Members can request movies and a monthly 'showings' schedule is posted.
Members and guests can head into the sleek new Group Exercise room complete with Maple wood floors for their favorite Gold's class, such as BodyPump, Yoga, Step or Kickboxing. Or head upstairs for something different like a Group Rowing class or a Spin Cycle class on a Real Ryder bike—the newest stationary cycling bike that actually moves with you, doubling your workout?
Still unmotivated? Try a Pole Dancing exercise in a private studio; Introductory, Level 1 and 2, and Chair Pole classes are all available to fit individual goals and needs.
Traditional Kickboxing and Bootcamp classes are available, but the gym also has an actual boxing ring and heavy punching bags for the ultimate boxing experience.
The gym, located at 9705 Liberia Avenue, offers two circuit training areas, a CrossFit program, indoor track (made out of actual AstroTurf from an old soccer field), and traditional free-weight room.
Even the kids will want to go to the gym. The Kid's Club has a movie theatre room, and the older kids can play the gym's Wii system for their own little workout.
Saunas, spray tanning and juice and coffee bar are all also available at the gym. And just in case you forgot part of your workout attire, the location sells all the traditional Gold's Gym exercise gear.
One thing is for sure: you will not get bored at this gym.
Residents are welcome to attend the gym's Grand Opening Celebration Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come and meet two-time Redskins Super Bowl champs Gary Clark, Clarence Vaughn Raven Caldwell and Big Ed Simmons.
There will be something for the whole family to enjoy.
