Target Closing Manassas Mall Location

Target has been open on Sudley Road for 15 years.

Target will close its store in the Manassas Mall in early 2013, the retail giant announced this week.

The store at 8340 Sudley Rd. in Manassas opened in 1997, and has been deemed underperforming by higher-ups. It will close on Feb. 2, according to a Target press release issued Wednesday, which said that the decision to close the store was made after "careful consideration" of its financial performance.

The shut down is not expected to affect the newer Super Target in Sowder Village Square in Manassas off Nokesville Road. And employment is not expected to take a hit either, since eligible employees working at the Manassas Mall location can transfer stores, the company said.

The Manassas Mall Target will join another large retailer of food and other goods to shutter its doors. The Giant location on Centreville Road and Liberia Avenue closed shop at the beginning of November. Read more about that story here.
