Vanguard's Pope to Compete for Second Championship Title

Mike Pope of Manassas' Van Guard Gym will be fighting for the Featherweight Title at a Mixed Martial Arts event at the end of the month. If he wins, he will retire from amateur fighting with two Championship belts.

Mike Pope of Manassas' Vanguard Gym will be fighting for the Featherweight Title at a Mixed Martial Arts event in Northern Virginia this month.

Pope will be fighting Nate Jamie for the title in the Operation Octagon co-main event, which will take place in Sterling on March 31. Pope currently holds the Lightweight (155lbs) Title at Operation Octagon, but will competing this time for a chance at the Featherweight (145lbs) Title.  Pope, who holds an holds an amateur record of 8-1, will have his work cut out for him as Jamie also holds an impressive amateur record of 4-0. 

Operation Octagon will take place at Dulles Sportsplex the last weekend in March and is one of the best local, amateur and professional Mixed Martial Arts competitions in the area.

Fighters of the highest caliber from all up and down the east coast will be participating in the event.

Pope will have two Championship belts if he wins, and plans to retire from amateur fighting to begin his professional career.
