Visions for Vacancies: What Should Go in Place of Marlin & Rays?

The old home of Marlin & Rays is located on prime real estate on Sudley Road in Manassas.

Very little evidence of Marlin & Rays Restaurant is left on the Sudley Road building that less than a week ago housed the now-defunct seafood franchise of Ruby Tuesday Inc.

All Marlin & Rays signage has already been removed from the building, leaving only a red and white "closed for business" banner near the entrance.

Without the signs, the empty building now resembles its sister restaurant Ruby Tuesday, minus the black awning and phrase "fresh American dining" in white font. The location was actually the home of a Ruby Tuesday prior to the company opening the Marlin & Rays in that spot a little over a year ago.

Ruby Tuesday officials and sources familiar with the corporation said they shuttered the franchise because they felt staff and talents could be more effectively used elsewhere in the company.

So what do you see in this now-empty space of prime property along Sudley Road? Tell us in the comments.

Doze it and build a Sonic Drive In Restaurant.

Oh my goodness! I haven't been to Sonic since I left South Carolina. I never liked it much, except when they had that birthday cake shake.
LindsLu2 January 15, 2013 at 02:27 AM
SONIC!!! That would be so great!
Wayne January 15, 2013 at 10:42 AM
My wife and I ate there once and didn't like it all so I won't miss it.
Shawn January 15, 2013 at 11:20 AM
I wish you all would understand that location is bad because of the topography, and the layout of the shopping center. There is not enough space there for that.
George January 15, 2013 at 12:26 PM
Dave and Busters would be good.
Marie White January 15, 2013 at 01:43 PM
My daughter says Sonic, I say Outback
Duane Snodgrass January 15, 2013 at 01:49 PM
I would like to see a vegetarian/vegan restaurant.
Jim Kirkland January 15, 2013 at 02:34 PM
Krispy Kreme with a hot donuts sign in the window.

Bring Anita's back to Manassas!
DebyWine January 15, 2013 at 05:03 PM
I have called the son of Anita and asked many times to bring Anita's Restaurant back to Manassas. We drive to Chantilly location now, but would love them back in Manassas.
Gail January 15, 2013 at 05:16 PM
Great idea--Love Anita's
Jim Kirkland January 15, 2013 at 05:51 PM
Excellent idea! We still need a Krispy Kreme though.
Bonnie Rand January 15, 2013 at 06:12 PM
Bonnie BoneFish Restaurant - excellent Seafood - wouldn't have to go out of Manassas to Centreville or Gainsville to the nearest one!
Terry C. January 15, 2013 at 09:26 PM
I would love to see an outback. We have enough burger places.
MJ January 15, 2013 at 10:52 PM
Would love to see a MAX & ERMA'S. There is one at Dulles Airport but its at the gate location so not available to the walk in public. Many locations in Pennsylvania and they have great food.
Joe January 15, 2013 at 11:54 PM
What about a Steak and Shake?
sallie January 16, 2013 at 12:16 AM

Monkey Bone January 16, 2013 at 02:02 AM
Certainly not a Ruby Tuesdays. How about one of their mor successful competitors: TGI Frifays or Applebee's ?
Greg January 16, 2013 at 02:43 AM
ANYTHING BUT A FRANCHISE! The culinary offerings in Northern Virginia are insulting! Please just ONE decent mom & pop restaraunt! Somewhere that Guy Fieri would visit on triple D...PLEASE FOOD GODS! PLEASE!
Jamie M. Rogers (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 03:09 AM
That would interesting Duane.
Jamie M. Rogers (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 03:09 AM
You are speaking my lingo, Jim Kirkland :P
Jamie M. Rogers (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 03:10 AM
BoneFish is good. It has changed as a franchise over the years. The first one I ate at was very expensive. Someone told me they lowered their prices after the economy went south.
Jamie M. Rogers (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 03:11 AM
What's Max and Erma's about?
Jamie M. Rogers (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 03:13 AM
OK then, a second Yorkshire Restaurant?
Teresa January 16, 2013 at 01:05 PM
How about Outback, Carrabas, Cheesecake Factory, Coastal Flats, Sweet WaterTavern, Willard's BBQ, or Famous Daves?
Amber Reynolds January 16, 2013 at 02:57 PM
My husband said Sonic too which I would be completely ok with. We also were thinking of a Famous Dave's.
Kyle Austin January 16, 2013 at 04:56 PM
nothing like Dave and Busters around here---love Bone Fish too
Phyllis Camper January 16, 2013 at 08:04 PM
Something different and unique. Not another franchise restaurant.
