Here's the scoop on a newer, healthier snack products that have hit local Walmart stores.

Walmart stores in the area are stocking a new brand of snack foods that are meant to be a healthier alternative to some of your favorites.

Wholesome Goodness have two kinds of cereal, two kinds of granola bars, Sea Salt Kettle chips, Whole Grain Sea Salt Crisps, Grilled Vegetable Tortilla Chips, Multi Grain and Flax Tortilla Chips, Mild Garden Salsa and Tuxedo and Mountain Mix trail snacks.

The cereals have 12 grams of whole grains per serving and the Sea Salt Crisps have 19 grams. The products contain less sodium than some other brand-name products and more fiber.

For example, the Grilled Vegetable Tortila Chips have 1/3 cup of vegetables per serving, the Multi Grain and Flax Tortilla Chips have 200 mg of Omega-3 and 20 grams of whole grains and the Rice and Wheat Flakes with Strawberries cereal has 50-percent more fiber than Kashi brands and 29 percent less sodium.

Manassas Patch was able to taste some of the products and offer these reviews:

Flax Tortilla Chips: Not too salty but with maintained flavor. My kids enjoyed them, and as a good source of Omega-3 and whole grains, I am a fan as well. Plus, they don't leave the kids with orange fingers!

Sea Salt Kettle Chips: Kettle chips are harder, thicker and crunchier than normal chips and these fit that bill. They don't have any cholesterol, but most chips have cut it out anyway, but the flavor and crispiness of these chips was great. These were a close second of all of the products. The potatoes used tasted great and they weren't oily.

Kansas City Style Barbecue Sauce: This product was not only delicious but I knew what all the ingredients when I read the label. The main ingredient in this sauce is simple: tomatoes. They add molasses and spices for that perfect combination of sweet and savory.
