MANASSAS UTILITIES INSTALLS AUTOMATED METERED INFRASTRUCTURE

City of Manassas Utility crews won’t have to make periodic trips to read meters anymore, with the installation of Automated Metered Infrastructure (AMI). The utility department and the customers can now have better real-time consumption information. For more information, go to www.manassascity.org or call 703-257-8219.

Automatic Metered Infrastructure, or AMI, is the technology of automatically collecting consumption, diagnostic from water meters and electric metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. Not only does it help utility providers avoid periodic trips to each physical location to read a meter, but also assists in the detection of possible problems such as a water leak or extreme high electric usage. This information with analysis can help both utility providers and customers better control the use and production of electric energy or water consumption.

“AMI is something we’ve been reviewing for the past couple of years, it’s a more efficient and effective way to analyze consumption rates for our customers,” said Mike Moon, director of City of Manassas public works and utilities department.
