For Neighborhoods, the Future is Now

Explore the possibilities at the Prince William Neighborhood Conference on Sat., Feb 25.

I keep getting asked, “What do you think about the Prescott House?”

My answer has always been about the family.  They lived in it, loved it, and in their eyes, see it as used to be.  I also think about the neighbors.  Living with a vacant home in your neighborhood is like waiting for a wound to heal.  You feel helpless, especially when neglect becomes blight.

You CAN make a difference in your neighborhood.  A great place to explore the possibilities is the 2012 Prince William Neighborhood Conference this Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Development Services Building, 5 County Complex in Woodbridge, right off the Prince William Parkway between Hoadly and Ridgefield Roads.

Register by Tues., Feb. 21 and the cost is $25 for conference materials, refreshments and lunch.  Later registration or walk-ins cost $35.

Residents of the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park are welcome at this conference.  In fact, Meg Carroll, the Community Manager for the Georgetown South Community and I will be helping to lead one of the panel discussions, “Engaging Neighbors Effectively.”  We’ll be talking about Neighborhood Watch, Neighborhood Improvement Circles, and community partnerships like VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement), which just held a foreclosure prevention workshop this past Sunday at the Manassas Boys & Girls Club, and Big Day of Serving Manassas (formerly 1 By Youth), which is coming to the Bristoe Station neighborhood on May 5.

Hope to see you there, neighbor!
