Go See: Vintage Baseball Game Saturday

The game of baseball gained popularity during the Civil War when soldiers played to ease the boredom of camp life. During this time, the sport transitioned from a 'high society' game to one in which Americans from all social classes could participate. 

"Both Union and Confederate officers endorsed baseball as a much-needed morale builder that also provided physical conditioning...Often, the teamwork displayed on the baseball diamond often translated into teamwork on the battlefield," wrote Michael Aubrecht in his article Civil War Baseball:  Baseball and the Blue and the Gray.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Manassas is hosting a series of vintage baseball games as part of the 150th Anniversary of the Second Battle of Manassas at .

The event will present by offering a history lesson on America's oldest and most popular spectator team sport.
