VDOT: Devlin Road to Reopen Today

A portion of Devlin Road is scheduled to reopen today at 3:30 p.m. after being closed for three weeks.

Devlin Road between Ashleys Park Lane and University Boulevard in Manassas is set to reopen today at 3:30 p.m., according to VDOT officials.

The portion of the Manassas roadway was closed for three weeks because of ongoing development associated with Bristow Commons.

The closure was implemented to allow the developer of the retail center to raise the grade of the roadway 18 inches (east of Ashleys Park Lane) and install storm drains.

The work was in accordance with proffered road improvements between the developer and the county.  Closing the road allowed the improvements to be made in a safe and expeditious manner, officials said.

According to its website, Bristow Commons is a mixed-use retail and office space site envisioned to accompany the large expansion of residential development in the Linton Hall corridor of Prince William County.

The road was closed July 5 and was expected to reopen in 7-10 days if there were not any issues.

Virginia Department of Transportation officials said back on July 5 that the local roadway could be closed until July 26, but that would be "worst-case scenario."

Construction on the property began in early 2010 with the opening of a Montessori school. Walgreen construction was expected to start this summer.

Virginia Department of Transportation officials said back on July 5 that the local roadway could be closed until July 26, but that would be "worst-case scenario." But the worst case scenario even extended beyond that since today is the 27th. And 10 days past July 5 is the 19th if you count them as working days which puts it a week further than they said!!!

Hi Bob, Put a call into VDOT about what exactly "the worst case scenario" was that caused the reopening to be delayed. They will get back with me shortly. Do you live near the area? How did the closure impact you?

I just went on Devlin Road and the construction is still not finished yet they opened the road. There is still concrete work to do right before Linton Hall Road and the right turn lane is not open yet but the signs are up showing 3 lanes (left turn, straight ahead, and right turn) yet there is only two lanes open. So VDOT is incorrect saying it is completed. And yes, I live in the area.

It looks like the barrels are gone today. I had to physically get out of my car yesterday evening and move a barrel to get into the center "straight only" lane. With all the traffic that turns left, a dedicated lane just to go straight is a waste. The center lane should be a "left turn and straight" lane to double the left turn capacity. Whomever planned the road construction and lane designations is clueless.

VDOT official I have been speaking with just told me that the middle lane (straight only) lane you are referring to will be a straight lane and a left-turn lane when completed, so there will be two left turn lanes off of Devlin onto Linton Hall. There will be a total of three lanes: a right-turn lane (onto LH), a straight/left-turn lane and a left-turn lane only...when construction will be completed. Heard all the cones were moved today so that should be sooner rather than later. Writing new story now. Look for it soon!
