VDOT: Devlin Road to Reopen Today

A portion of Devlin Road is scheduled to reopen today at 3:30 p.m. after being closed for three weeks.

Devlin Road between Ashleys Park Lane and University Boulevard in Manassas is set to reopen today at 3:30 p.m., according to VDOT officials.

The portion of the Manassas roadway was closed for three weeks because of ongoing development associated with Bristow Commons.

The closure was implemented to allow the developer of the retail center to raise the grade of the roadway 18 inches (east of Ashleys Park Lane) and install storm drains.

The work was in accordance with proffered road improvements between the developer and the county.  Closing the road allowed the improvements to be made in a safe and expeditious manner, officials said.

According to its website, Bristow Commons is a mixed-use retail and office space site envisioned to accompany the large expansion of residential development in the Linton Hall corridor of Prince William County.

The road was closed July 5 and was expected to reopen in 7-10 days if there were not any issues.

Virginia Department of Transportation officials said back on July 5 that the local roadway could be closed until July 26, but that would be "worst-case scenario."

Construction on the property began in early 2010 with the opening of a Montessori school. Walgreen construction was expected to start this summer.
