Woman Charged in Fatal Crash

A Maryland woman has been charged in connection with a July crash that killed county employee and loving father William Tyler Cowherd and injured another.

A Maryland woman has been charged in connection with a July crash that seriously injured a Manassas-area man and killed one other person. 

Tuong Nguyen, 63, was charged Tuesday with failing to yield the right of way and released on a summons, according to a press release issued Thursday by the Fairfax County Police Department. 

 William Tyler Cowherd, of 4605 Medford Drive in Annandale, died as a result of injuries he suffered in the crash.

"Everybody loved him; he loved his daughter and was a great father," said his sister, Kitty Boyd.

 It happened on July 16 at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Braddock and Twinbrook Roads in Fairfax County.  Police said Nguyen was heading West on Braddock Road in a 1997 Lexus sedan and tried to make a left turn on to Twinbrook Road and turned in front of two Harley Davidson motorcycles, one ridden by Cowherd, as they traveled on Braddock Road.

 Cowherd and the driver of the other motorcycle, the 50-year-old Manassas-area man, tried to stop, but struck the passenger side of the Lexus, according to police reports.

 The two men and a woman on the bike with Cowherd were all transported to a Fairfax County hospital.

The other two victims suffered serious injuries, but are expected to survive, according to police reports. 

Nguyen was not injured in the crash.
