Despite the most recent and economically catastrophic federal government shutdown that began on Oct. 1, one Northern Virginia foundation is steam rolling right along with its plans.
The Brown Foundation of Northern Virginia, which serves Greater Prince William County, Stafford County and Spotsylvania County, created the Adopt A Family Holiday Program to serve the financially destitute and the elderly on fixed incomes
Dr. Lewis R. Brown, the CEO, founder and director of this multi-million dollar foundation said he is extremely elated and excited to finally be able to offer this free service to all who are in financial need.
Brown said we are in a rough economy and it would not do those who can afford to give and share good to look the other way when others who are less fortunate are need. Everyone from at times, needs assistance and we all need to stick together to help each other in times of need and despair, Brown added.
Brown plans to begin this program Oct. 26. This program has a, "Meals on Wheels" element in that it will deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to those who are in need.
Brown said the foundation will be giving away soulful Christmas CD sets of music recorded from Browns Annual Soulful Christmas Show on ABC Radio that airs the Friday after Thanksgiving from 9 p.m to midnight with the best variety of Soulful Christmas Oldies from the past as well as some of the "oldies" Christmas cartoons from the early 1950s to 1970s on DVD.
Families with small children will received the cartoons and a DVD player as well as desktop computer for those.
Interested parties should give the Brown Foundation a call at 703-594-2302 from 9 to 6 p.m. Oct. 26. All calls are confidential and will not be released to anyone.
Dr. Shamira A. Brown, the chief financial officer and co-founder of the Brown Foundation of Northern Virginia, will be on hand to take all calls for the Thanksgiving Season that is steadily approaching.
The Brown Foundation of Northern Virginia would like to make sure that everyone has food and knows the meaning of holiday love and happiness.
