Arrests in Manassas

Arrests made in Manassas the week of Aug. 8, 2011.

Trespass Leads to Arrest

On August 11, 2011, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Manassas City Police Officers were conducting foot patrol in the 9800 block of Maury Lane when they encountered two black males in an area marked “No Trespassing”. Officers were attempting to identify the subjects when one of them attempted to flee. A small scuffle ensued ending in the arrest Derrick Wanzer, of 7616 Cass Place.

During a search, a small bag containing marijuana, along with a bag containing crack cocaine, was found in Wanzer’s pockets. A police systems check revealed that Wanzer had outstanding warrants from Manassas for Destruction of Property and a Capias from Stafford.

Wanzer was placed under arrest and charged with Obstruction of Justice, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Schedule I or II Substance, and Intoxication in Public. He was seen by the magistrate and held at the Prince William Adult Detention Center with no bond. His court date was set for September 20, 2011.

Cab Ride Leads to Arrest

On August 12, 2011, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Manassas City Police officers were summoned to the 9900 block of Cockrell Road regarding a subject that refused to pay for her cab ride.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the cab driver informed them that he picked up a fare in Haymarket requesting to go to Manassas. The total cost of the ride was $42.20, in which she tried to give him $2.00. The officers observed that the female, later identified as Chelsea Hurlburt, of Charlottesville, Virginia, was extremely intoxicated. Hurlburt was placed under arrest for Public Intoxication and Defrauding a Cab Driver. During a search of her property, the officers recovered two cigarettes containing a chemical odor. Further tests revealed that the cigarettes contained Phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP.

Hurlburt was also charged with Possession of a Schedule I or II Narcotic. She is currently being held at the Prince William County Detention Center, with no bond. Her court date was set for October 11, 2011.

Man Arrested for Assault

Manassas City Police officers were called to the 8600 block of Devonshire Court on August 14, 2011, in regards to an assault.

Officers were called to the scene when they discovered a female victim that had been beaten by a family member. The victim sustained injuries to her face and arms.

After further interviews, officers arrested Marcial Diaz, of Inwood, New York, for Domestic Assault. Diaz supplied the officers with the name, Marcelo Abarcia, which turned out to be an alias.

Diaz was placed under arrest and charged with Domestic Assault and False Identification. He is currently being held at the Prince William Adult Detention Center, with no bond. His court date was set for September 13, 2011. He will be turned over to I.C.E. officials immediately after all proceedings pertaining to this incident have been completed.
