Bomb Threat Suspect in Police Custody

Police in Prince William County have identified the man they believe responsible for calling in a bomb threat to the county courthouse in Manassas Tuesday afternoon.

Police in Prince William County have identified the man they believe responsible for calling in a bomb threat to the county courthouse in Manassas Tuesday afternoon.

David Reginald Heron, 47, of 2441 Firehouse Rd in Landover, Md., has been arrested and charged with making the threat.

Police responded to the Prince William County Courthouse located at 9311 Lee Ave in Manassas for a bomb threat shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday after communications had received a phone call advising that there was a bomb inside of the courthouse, according to police.

An investigation has revealed Heron was responsible for the threat and had been in the courthouse earlier in the day, but was asked to leave after becoming disorderly with staff. Warrants were obtained against the accused who was located early Wednesday morning at his residence in Maryland.

The courthouse was evacuated and several roadways surrounding the courthouse were closed until shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday while officials from Manassas City Police and Prince William County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident.

The Virginia State Police brought in bomb-sniffing dogs to search the building. The search was completed shortly after 6:00PM with no threats found.             

Heron is being held in Maryland awaiting extradition.
