Butterfield Street Fire Causes $8,000 in Damage in Manassas

The fire happened Saturday morning at Carlyle Station Apartments.

An early morning fire at Carlyle Station Apartments on Saturday caused about $8,000 in damage, Prince William County Fire Department spokeswoman Kim Hylander said.

Fire and rescue units responded to a fire alarm activation at Carlyle Station Apartments on the 10400 block of Butterfield Street in Manassas at 6:35 a.m. Saturday.

A fire was discovered on the third floor balcony and had partially extended into a utility closet, according to fire department reports.

Firefighters said one sprinkler head in the closet had activated, helping control the fire.

Investigators later determined the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

No injuries were reported.

The Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue reminds residents to properly extinguish and discard smoking materials into approved containers, Hylander said.
