Crime Blotter: Grand Larceny Arrest; Hit and Run Incidents Investigated

MCPD is investigating two hit and run incidents that occurred over the holiday weekend. An officer interviews a man engaged in suspicious behavior, which leads to his arrest for grand larceny.

Two Hit and Run Incidents Reported Over the Weekend

The Manassas City Police are investigating after two hit and run incidents that occurred over the weekend.

 According to police, the first incident took place in the 10000 block of Makelys Way July 1, at approximately 5:15 a.m. That's when a vehicle entered the area at a high rate of speed, crashing into a fence. The driver then backed up and drove away. The incident was witnessed by a neighbor and substantial evidence was left at the scene.

The second incident occurred in the 9400 block of Taney Road on July 2, at approximately 12:15 p.m. A witness told police  she observed a “U-Haul” Ford van strike a parked vehicle. The collision sparked a chain reaction and two other parked vehicles were struck.

The driver of the vehicle was described as a white male subject, accompanied by a white female passenger.

Interview Leads to Arrest

A Manassas City Police Officer observed a subject behind a business in Old Town while patrolling the area Saturday, July 2. The suspect was transferring copper wiring from one container to another.

Finding this to be very suspicious, the officer decided to interview the subject. After an investigation, the subject was placed under arrest and charged with Felony Grand Larceny.

The suspect has been identified as Edward Maurice Jones of the Bragg Road area. A smoking device containing crack cocaine was also found on the suspect. As a result, a warrant for the cocaine possession was also obtained and served on Jones. He was placed in jail on a $2, 500.00 bond.

Robberies

Manassas City Police are investigating two robberies that occurred over the weekend.

 The first incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 1,  near the intersection of Mathis Avenue and Sudley Road. The victim stated that he was walking in the area when he was approached by two Hispanic male subjects.

  The victim told police the two subjects engaged him in conversation and then managed to rob him of a gold necklace. It is not sure if the victim was wearing the necklace or if it was in his pocket.

The suspects have been described as being in their thirties with a thin build, light skin and with Bolivian accents. The necklace was valued at over $500.00.

The second incident happened between 11:15 p.m. and 11:45 pm. on Friday, July 1, in the 9700 block of Taney Road in the Georgetown South community.

The victim told police he was walking to the store when he was approached by four black males. The victim said  he was assaulted by two of the suspects while the other two went into his pockets and stole $40.00.

 

Attempted Burglary

Manassas City Police are investigating an attempted burglary that occurred at Stonewall Park and Pool between in the overnight hours of Saturday, July 2.

The suspect(s) attempted to gain access to a building on the pool property, but werre unsuccessful. The building’s door sustained damaged estimated at over $100.00.
