Crime: Woman Robbed, Dragged Across Street

Manassas police are investigating two robberies that occurred Thursday night.

The following information comes from the Manassas City Police Department: 

Robbery

Manassas City police are investigating after a woman said a man on a bicycle grabbed her purse as she walked to her car Thursday night.

Officers responded to the 8900 block of Cherry Street (see map) on July 12 shortly before midnight. The victim, a 39-year-old female, told officers she was walking to her vehicle when a male rode by her on a bicycle and grabbed her shoulder bag. The victim said she was then dragged across the street as she held on to the bag.

The victim told police she threw a can she had in her hand at the suspect, who was able to get away with the bag.

Police said most of the items in the bag had fallen to the ground during the struggle.

The suspect was described as a clean-shaven Hispanic male, wearing a baseball cap, light-colored buttoned down shirt, dark colored pants and shoes.

Larceny

Police in Manassas are looking for the person responsible for robbing a local Dollar Tree store.

Police said shortly before 9 p.m. on July 12 an employee at the Dollar Tree store, ., told officers that he walked away from the cash register and observed a white male taking money out of the register when he returned a short time later. 

The cashier told police he chased the suspect out of the store but was unable to catch him. The suspect was last seen running towards the direction of Signal Hill Road, police said.

The suspect was described as skinny, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet-tall, with dark hair that was combed to the side. He was wearing a dirty white shirt, tight jeans, dark skater-type shoes and black gloves at the time of the incident.
