UPDATED: Firefighters Respond to Fire at Manassas Mall Store

Witnesses said they saw smoke coming from one of the store's rooms.

Manassas fire units responded to one of Manassas Mall's anchor stores just before noon Tuesday to investigate reports of smoke and a possible fire, according to a Manassas Volunteer Fire Company Facebook post

A caller reported smoke in the electrical room of the JCPenney department store at the mall around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Just prior to the call, units responded to the mall after receiving an automatic fire alarm notification from the store, according to the Facebook post.

Firefighters later discovered a trash compactor malfunctioned in the store, causing a small fire.

The fire was extinguished by the time fire crews arrived on the scene, Manassas volunteer firefighters said.

No injuries were reported.
