Growing Minds Daycare Owner Charged With Cruelty to Children

A Manassas woman was charged with four counts of cruelty and injuries to children.

A Manassas day care owner has been charged with child cruelty and injuries to children, Prince William County Police said Thursday.

Tara Angelyn Loop, 38, of 8500 block of Somersworth Drive in the Yorkshire area, was arrested and held on a $4,000 secured bond following a police investigation.

Detectives with the Prince William County Police Department's Physical Abuse Unit and Child Protective Services visited the unlicensed daycare at Loop's home on Oct. 2. They found six children in the home, all under the age of two. Three of the children were unattended in a separate room, police said.

Loop's 16-year-old teenage daughter was also at the residence and officers said they found she worked long hours to care for the children.

The charges against Loop were related to the three unattended children and because her daughter was overworked, police said.

Please note the 8500 block of Somersworth Drive is in the Yorksire area of Prince William County -- NOT in the Manassas. Hint - if Prince William County authorities are handling the case, odds are it is in PWC. (In fact, Manassas Park is far closer to the location than Manassas). And why did you identify the person charged as a "Manassas woman"? Based on what information? It is sloppy reporting to identify every negative event in all of western Prince William County as "in Manassas". Yes, we certainly have our own challenges -- all the more reason not to allow a lazy media to label us with events that happen miles away in another jurisdiction. The accurate reporting of who, what, when, WHERE and how have long been benchmarks of good journalism. The Manassas Patch failed to meet that standard in this article.

Wow, Really, Mr. Randolph? In Yorkshire, their postal addresses don't say Prince William County, they say Manassas. I can't believe a councilman would waste their time sniping over how the PWC reports this out on their news releases - her article states that was the source of the information. Prince William County is mentioned twice in the article. I don't think a reporter in the area needs to point out the distinction the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County. Nothing labeled the city of Manassas in this article... but I promise you have given me a good laugh at the city's expense.

A postal address is to service the needs of the post office, not to identify the official boundaries of a jurisdiction. It is easy to understand why some people who live outside the City of Manassas might be just fine with crimes in neighboring jurisdictions being reported as "in Manassas", but it is still wrong. A good local reporter, especially of crime stories, will know the distinction between the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Prince William County. i A

You are all mad about where the crime happened? Seriously, what about the crime itself of the kids? Get your priorities in order....fools!

B.G Lev...thank you for your comment. Its disgusting how these 2 are going on about jurisdiction. Seriously people...a crime is being investigated! A crime against CHIlDREN. I'm blown away that you take the time to bitch about the reporting over jurisdiction. And yet NEITHER of you care to mention anything about the allegations. I live in Manassas, and hope to God you are not one of my neighbors.

You are making an assumption that I don't care about the crime. Wrong... I do. I am a mother myself. I don't care where the crime occurred, but I found the comment that he was making about Ms. Rogers insulting to her. I took exception to that someone only cared which jurisdiction, which if you read the second comment, is what he went back to. L, Steve Randolph is your elected councilman on City Council. So yeah, that makes him your neighbor. I am going to get back to spending time with my kids on this wet Sunday. Have a great day.

Of course any crime is bad, and a crime againist children is especially horrible. It should be dealt with swiftly and the victims helped in every way possible. No one has questioned that. And yes, the location reported as the jurisdiction where the crime took place is secondary, but that is no reason for it not to be correct.

Well people, as I'm sure you are aware, reporters report information as they know it. I assume you are intelligent enough to realize certain details are not published. so, yes...go ahead and enjoy your day with your children. Just remember, the children and the families of those involved in this situation have a lot of pain at this time. Perhaps a kinder approach , from a mother yourself would have been respectful. That, in my opinion..is what would have been "correct".

And Steve... My comment goes out to you as well.

Steve, Thanks for your comment. Please note that we do cover items that are Manassas that are not in the City of Manassas. The Manassas identification was made by the Prince William County police in their release. I have updated the article to reflect that the address is indeed in the Yorkshire area. Thank you.

Mr. Randolph, get off your high horse! I am a resident of "Yorkshire" and our address is MANASSAS! In case you forgot a great deal of PWC is MANASSAS. Usually the area you are talking about as "Manassas" is referred to as "The City of Manassas". Get over yourself, Manassas is more than just the "City of"! I can't believe you wasted your time and tax payers dollars with such a ridiculous complaint!
