Jail Time for Man Who Ran Over Manassas Police Officer

Alexander Bacon also received probation, slapped with fines following the July 13 incident involving Manassas Police Officer Heather Munsterman.

A Herndon man will spend one year in jail and pay hundreds of dollars in fines and court costs after he struck Manassas Police Officer Heather Munsterman with a car in July.

Alexander Michael Bacon, 25, pleaded guilty this month and received a six-month prison sentence, two years probation and one year of license suspension for his driving with a suspended license-third offense charge, according to Virginia General District Court documents.

He also has to pay a $500 fine and $121 in court costs in connection with that charge.

Bacon also received a six-month sentence, two years probation and a $500 fine on his reckless driving charge.
The sentences will run consecutively for a total of one year in jail, while the probations will run concurrently.

No jail sentence was handed down for the remaining charges: texting while driving and failure to proceed with caution to stationary vehicle displaying lights, but he is ordered to pay a $125 fine and a $250 fine, respectively.
Bacon appeared in court on Nov. 18 regarding the July 13 incident on Route 28 near Phoenix Drive in Manassas.

Authorities said Munsterman was standing outside of a vehicle during a routine traffic stop when she was struck by a black Ford that swerved off the road.

She suffered a concussion, a dislocated shoulder and fractures in her ankle and pelvic areas and later underwent rehabilitation for her injuries

A return-to-work date for Munsterman hasn't been set, a spokeswoman for the Manassas City Police Department said this week.

Earlier this year, several fundraising events were held in honor of Munsterman. Read about them here: Community Rallies Around Injured Police Officer
