Zimmerman was in college in Florida and wanted to become a police officer—something he reportedly took very seriously, along with his duties as a neighborhood watch volunteer.

But now half a million people are calling for his arrest in the shooting death of Martin. The Sentinel reported Zimmerman is being verbally attacked and has even been driven from his home by threats targeting him as a racist.

The outrage has even led to the creation of a "Arrest George Zimmerman" Facebook page that has garnered nearly 3,000 'likes.' One post reads: "Florida teens are not safe while there is a killer on the loose. Arrest George Zimmerman NOW!"

Zimmerman, who has claimed self defense in the shooting, called police on Feb. 26 saying the neighborhood had experienced a lot of break-ins lately and that Martin was acting very "suspicious" and "had his hand in his waistband."

"Something is wrong with him," Zimmerman is heard saying in the 911 call.

Law enforcement asked Zimmerman to stop pursuing Martin during the call.
